The late 15th and early 16th centuries in Europe were defined by near-constant warfare. National ‘standing armies’ were unheard of and the ambitions of empires were reliant on the mercenaries they could afford to hire.
This box contains:
Landsknechts were instigated by the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximillian I, as a reaction to the Swiss Mercenary Pikemen that had dominated battlefields for decades before the Italian Wars (1494-1559).
Over the course of the Italian Wars, however, the Landsknecht tactics adapted far more than the Swiss and the use of firearms in conjunction with the pike would give them the edge, at least tactically.
Maximillian was keen to give the men freedom to wear what they wanted, and this resulted in plumes, slashed sleeves and bright colours. The figures in this boxed set can be used to represent the Landsknechts raised in Germany or the Tyrol as well as early Swiss pike regiments.

Exelent pikemen.
These miniatures are fantastic! they're detailed, beautiful, easy to assemble and overall - very cool.
The only assembly issue is that some of the heads are difficult to attach looking straight forward because the pike gets in the way.
the Plastic used for these models is flexible, yet sturdy. the seemingly fragile pikes bend right back to straight if bended. the plastic also reacts well with normal plastic glue
the way the models are modelled allow them to pose as shown in the picture, but not in any other way such as holding the pike forwards or at an 45 degree angle.
all the heads and bodies of the zweihander and pikemen are the same, but the missile weapon box contains different heads and bodies, so if you want to achieve maximum diversity in your figures you can mix from these two different boxes.
the box comes with a command set, which contains a captain armed with either a sword or hallbard, a drummer and a banner bearer.
the sprue gives the option to assemble 5 arqebushiers.
these figures are slightly smaller than GW's heroic scale, but in my oppinion they are compatible.
all in all im very satisfied with these figures, and i cant wait to paint and play with them
Because there is a command sprue with drummer, standardbearer etc. you get a good starter pack, so the unit looks complete, as a small army group.
The models themselves are great, with 6 different body/leg types and many more varioations on heads and arms, you can make many different combinations. And this is fun to paint.
Also, you can make up to 5 of the models as arquebusiers, to add some variety to the army.
If you have other plastic landsknecht sets, spare bits can be used to make other soldier types as well.
