Description

Description

We have modelled up four splendidly characterful Indian heads to go with our clever Figure Head system to give you the gamer yet more flex in how you build your armies.

Here we have 4 Sikh heads with their trademark turbans and beards. Indian troops have developed a high reputation for their martial skills and a welcome addition to anyone's army.

The British valued their Commonwealth troops highly, and when the second world war broke out assembled the largest volunteer force of all time, the Indian army which would offer to the King two and a half million men.they went on to serve with distinction in many theatres if war, most famously in the Western Desert, Italy and the Far East.

They were of many and varied peoples and religions in the polyglot Indian army, but these represent Sikh troops, who ranked with the Gurkhas for elan in the attack and savage defence,The Indian troops went on to earn over 30 Victoria Crosses in WW2.

Generally the rank and file are to be in the turban, with Officers being British and dressed in "regular" order., though as the war went on more Indian troops became Officers and led their men to victory.

India was of course part of the British Empire, the largest the world had ever known at this stage. Not all of its dependants were happy under the rule of the Raj, and some Indian soldiers and volunteers took a bold step in either joining the German or Japanese forces, hoping that an Axis victory would mean independence for India.

The Germans formed the Tiger Legion or Free India Legion from freed pow's, about ten thousand joining up initially. They were posted on the Atlantic wall and in Holland. They were caught up in some fighting particularly in the last weeks of the war, where they, understandably tried to make it to neutral Switzerland. They sadly were brought under the organisational umbrella of the SS, rarely a good thing when the fortunes of war went against you, and there is little doubt that the survivors had a tough time of it and some served time as traitors.

In the Far East, the Japanese forces captured thousands of British and Commonwealth Troops. They gave a similar deal to the Germans, and Indian troops found themselves fighting not only British troops in Burma, but members of their old Indian divisions. Some fought well, others definitely less so, and there was little mercy shown to Indian National Army troops who were captured by the British or their Indian allies.

In the German army they were issued with regular Wehrmact uniform and kit, with Sikh troops allowed to wear their traditional Turban rather than helmet. A striking leaping tiger badge on their shoulder flash makes the Indian troops look quite striking. Officers were conventionally dressed and all carried German weapons.

This pack provides you with 6 sprues of Turbaned heads providing you with 24 heads in total. Perfect to go with a box of our British Infantry with the 25th head being the officer and you save £3 as well!
